     Congratulation to Leslie Vines for receiving the Jefferson County Teacher of the Year Award for grades K-4! Leslie Vines is in her 5th year of teaching ESL at Jefferson Elementary School. She earned her Master’s Degree from Carson Newman College. She has been a member of the leadership, data team, and student outreach committees at her school. Ms. Vines has mentored practicum students and service learning students. She has also mentored new teachers at Jefferson Elementary School with ESL modifications. Ms. Vines has given presentations to education classes at Tusculum College.

     Ms. Vines’ community involvement includes being a volunteer translator for Coats for the Cold; on the Board of Directors for Jefferson City Swim Club; and helping to meet the needs of many migrant families at Jefferson Elementary School with clothing, school supplies, and health information. She has created a monthly newsletter for ESL parents to connect JES to the Hispanic community, and she has organized International Readers’ Night at JES.
